Well, here I am! Finally writing the “About” part of this new project… So, what is it about me? Here it is:
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela 40 years ago. I live in San Jose, California with my husband, two kids (16 and 8), My two dogs (Paco-Jones and Bruiser-Felipe) and two cats (Margarita and Cody -after the ex-SF Giants player).
I grew up in a house where food was a major deal, specially during the weekends. Both my mom and dad love to cook and, boy do they cook amazing! I don’t remember the first time I cooked something, I just know I have always liked it and LOVE to entertain, to the point that if I could celebrate every single holiday at my house, I would be a very happy camper! I enjoy every single step of the process: from planing the menu, going shopping, prepping the food, setting the table, decorating the house and table (of course), to the very end of the meal, where I can have a nice glass of Pinot Noir, with a cup of coffee and a piece of dark chocolate (that is the TRIFECTA!) and savor the success of another great get together, wether it is with only the four of us (I don’t decorate the table for that) or a small/large group of friends.
3 years ago I was diagnosed with celiac disease, and to say that it was a game changer is an understatement. I changed 180 degrees my eating habits and had to re-learned the joy of cooking and eating. In addition to that, I turned 40 last summer and around March of 2015 I decided to take REALLY serious my eating habits and my workout routines. I had the amazing support of my personal trainer and I started to do the so needed changes, in order to celebrate my 40s looking and feeling better than ever!
During that time, me and some friends form my daughter’s school started exchanging recipes and tips via text messages, until one day I decided to do it on Facebook because I felt that I was going to have a better way to explain by pictures and captions the recipe Du Jour and also it was going to be a great opportunity to share the recipes and ideas with more people. That is how What’s In My fridge By Gaby was born. A place where recipes for healthier meals can be found, specially if what you are looking for is to lose weight, lose fat, or simply feel better… just easy and doable ideas presented on a way that can be explore a little easier than the awesome videos out there (In fact, plenty of my recipes come from those videos… I save them, make them, take pictures, edit them and publish them!) I am not going to lie, it is a little time consuming but I LOVE the fact that many dear friends with different needs are trying them and loving them! That makes it all worthy.
I am a certified Specialist in Fitness Nutrition and currently working on my second Master Certification in nutrition as well.
I can only hope this page will be a addition to your kitchen and to your family meals!
Here’s to a looking and feeling great by “Eating the right things, the right amounts, and at the right times“!
